New Test Determines Effectiveness of Chemotherapy

A study in England has helped place six genes that predict which cases would be effective chemotherapy treatment for those suffering from breast cancer.

The medical journal Lancet published a study that analyzed 829 genes in breast cancer cells and the team of scientists found six genes that predict a low effectiveness of anticancer drugs, especially paclitaxel.

These genes identified either by absence or by ruling, nullified the properties of paclitaxel at the time of attack breast cancer cells.

This international research, involving scientists from the British Research Institute, opens the way to the choice of treatment for breast cancer according to each patient.

The medical professionals may use this information to determine the treatment they give to their patients and avoid those that may be less effective.
